Year 9 End of Year Exams: How Important Are They?
I am Year 9 (England) and my end of year exams are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday across all subjects, including Spanish and Geography which I am dropping next year. I have done hardly any revision due to my stress over doing revision mainly resulting from my anxiety issues. I am really nervous about my future and I have three questions I need a lot of detail about. If I revise in the following days (cram study) will I reach my maximum potential in terms of grades? What will happen next year if my results are not good? Do these exams have any bearing on my GCSE results or my future education and success in life?
PS: I an very bright and have a GCSE predicted grade of A* but I have difficulty controlling my anxiety issues and I have frequent panic attacks so I get really stressed about anything like exams because of the pressurising nature of them.
Thank you in advance for your responses.
I had my year 9 exams a few years ago(the year that the government got rid of SATs). My school and probably your school as well will, use them as a guideline for what you are likely to achieve at GCSE, all schools to some extent will do this, as this is the only real test period which you have had for a good few years. As for how they might affects your GCSE’s and further life, they may have a bearing on if you will be allowed to take or join a particular course at GCSE level. But as far as careers go, I’ve never heard of a employer asking to see your year 9 test results, at the least they will look at your GCSE results if you do not have any further education qualifications. As for the cramming and revising, all I can say is calm down. These tests are not the be all and end all, and at the end of the day you can only try your best, but revising a lot beforehand means that even if you don’t get the marks you want, you can say that you tried your best. I too have anxiety problems when it comes to revising. Hope this helps =]
